Saratoga Lake is located about
30 miles north of Albany. Saratoga Springs has
a ton to offer in terms of horse racing, night
life, concerts, dining, and accomodations, and
the lake is just a few miles from all of the action.
The lake is 3,764-acres and averages 25 feet deep
with a maximum depth of 96 feet.
Local Knowledge:
Saratoga Lake has a fun, laid back atmosphere,
and is home to some of the best fishing in the
area. The northern end of the lake gets narrow
and turns into Fish Creek. This is North of the
bridge and the state boat launch, and is a great
spot to ski or wakeboard, as there is another
3-4 miles of navigable water, and very little
boat traffic. Saratoga Lake has a good sandbar
in the middle, on the western side, which is a
vey popular place to anchor, swim, and hang out.
There is even a floating stage where bands play
for some of the larger gatherings. Please check
out our parties
and events page to see when there are organized
events, or log into the message
board to view the scene from this past summer's
4th of July Party (video is posted to the video
section of the message board). The lake can be
accessed from the state boat launch, as well as
any of the private marinas around the lake.
Tip: If you are
hanging at the sandbar and didn't pack a lunch,
no need to pull anchor, visit The Grog.
Everyday of the summer, you can find the Grog's
floating snack bar anchored in the popular hang-out
serving up dogs, burgers, snacks, and drinks!
There is not much commercial development
on the lake such as hotels or resorts, but there
are cottages that can be rented from private owners,
as well as Lee's Campground, which is located
at the northern end of the lake and has a ramp,
slips, and lake-side camping for very reasonable
rates. Check out our Saratoga
Lake Marinas page for more details.
